Bangkok – more temples

19 Aug 2020

Just three sites today: Loha Prasat, Mahakan Fort and Wat Saket (Golden Mount).

The first temple Loha Prasat also called the Metal Castle as it supports 37 metal spires representing the 37 virtues towards enlightment in Buddhist teachings.

Mahakan Fort is one of the few remaining defensive forts which was restored in 1981.

At the Golden Mount we had not realised we needed to dress appropriately in that Nigel needed long trousers and I needed sleeves (although I could have just my shawl). We could not enter and climb the 330 steps, for which I was thankful at 1pm in full sun. We were however able to looked around the temple buildings which were spectacular. This temple was the city crematorium for some 60k plague victims in the late 18th century.
