- Rome2Rio – app which shows you how to get from A to B by a variety of means, giving timings, approx costs and links to book
- Seat61 – the website to use if you are looking to travel by train. Gives reviews of a whole host of train travel across the world, with reviews from those that have done it including photos.
- Cruise Critic this site has loads of information on cruise ships, destination ports and you can even add yourself to the “Roll Call” of a cruise to see what others are on board and if they are planning any private excursions where they are looking for extra people.
- Facebook – there are lots of pages relating to cruise lines and they set up Event pages for cruises – similar to Roll Call on Cruise Critic. Also you can find groups specific to your travel destinations and join to find out tips and resign once you have visited – I used Tokyo Travel Trips which I found helpful, you have to weed out the best ideas.
- Cruise Mapper – from here you can search ports and ships. You can find out how many ships are in port when you are – very handy to determine how busy it’s going to be. For ships you can find out what their future itineraries are so you can look at doing back to back cruises. Also for a port you can check what cruise ships are there when you want to be and see if the itinerary suits you. Loads of information.
- Whats in Port – has information on all cruise port stops, maps, what to see and links to the tour guides like Get Your Guide & Viator
- Microsoft One Note – this is a brilliant app to keep all your bookings in a virtual notebook which is available offline. You can import emails in pdf format, etc.
- MapsMe – download maps to view offline – you can also do this with Google Maps
- Skyscanner – to find and monitor flights
- Google Translate App – use your phone’s camera to translate menus, signs, etc as you travel
- Google Lens – if you upload a photo of a building or structure it shows you info from the web
