Dunedin to Christchurch
On the way we stopped off at Moeraki Boulder Beach where the rocks are spherical and no one really knows why, fabulous beach and even managed a paddle in the sea.
Oamuru was our next stop with a look round the Steampunk HQ, containing some very weird artwork, made out of metal, etc but well worth a look. Lots of arts and craft shops in the Victorian Precinct nearby, including steampunk clothing and accessories, managed not to buy lots of fab artwork! Fabulous lunch with a view of the ocean nearby.
Spent the night in Timaru before heading off to Akaroa, a French influenced town on a peninsula to the east of Christchurch. Lovely twisty and winding roads to get there and nice walk around and late lunch before heading to Christchurch.
Dropped off the car and headed to the Antarctica Centre for an entertaining morning which included a ride in a Hagglund, 4D cinema about Antarctica which included moving chairs, spraying with water, wind and snow fall! Gave the snow experience a miss, not keen on wind chill factor of -20, but loved meeting the huskies and seeing the blue penguins.
One fact I hadn’t realised is if the two poles ice melts, due to global warming this could increase the sea level by 60 metres!!
Finished off with seeing Black Adam at the cinema.
