Started off the day with rain and mist, usual for this area, but finished in glorious sunshine.

Puerto Montt is considered to be the entrance to Chilean Lakes area from here you can get two boats and 3 buses to get to Bariloche. It is currently the main summer holidays with the children on holiday until early March.

We took a trip to Vincente Perez Rosales National Park, firstly stopped at a viewpoint of the snow capped Osorno Volcano (2661m). Then on to the Petrohue Rapids, with glacier fed waters in lovely aquamarine colours, it’s considered a class 3 for rapids. Then onto Lake Llanquihue and a walk on the beach before heading back to the town of Puerto Varas, which is like little Bavaria, huge German influence as it was settled by German immigrants in the 1850s.
