Well rain continued to be a feature of our stay, in fact areas north of us are having serious flooding.
We took a trip out, travelling on the main road (complete contradiction in terms), with many pot holes and minor flooding. Saw lots of crop fields, local villages, temples, goats, water buffalo and cows. First off we went to the Tat Kuang Si (Waterfall, Deer, Dig) legend has it formed by a local digging into the earth, a golden deer then made it’s home under the rocks. Ordinarily they would be a vivid blue colour in the pools below the Falls, but due to the amount of rain, very brown and powerful with lots of spray, got soaked crossing the little bridge in front.
Stopped at Phoun Souk for a bite to eat, which is set within loads of rice fields and a train runs around the field, which you can sit on!
Finished off the day in the Old Town, with drinks and a lovely meal at the Princess Restaurant, again rain featured heavily in our decisions!!
Forgot to mention we became millionaires in Laos as each $1 is worth 22,000 Kip approx, so we changed $100 and had over 2 million Kip. Though drinks and food are very reasonable and lots of choice.
Took the train to Vientiane, 190+ miles in 2 hours, takes 8+ by minivan, for the princely sum of £19 each. Managed to book on the local train website, could only do 3 days in advance, otherwise it was double this if using 12Go or local agent, so quite pleased with myself.
