Barbados & Saint Lucia

Barbados
Well the rain didn’t materialise in Barbados, decided on a walk and a few locals beers, it was too hot for much else.

St Lucia
We had booked a local tour here, unfortunately this was a tender port, as the QM2’s draft is too much to ge able to dock. Unfortunately, a few people on our tour weren’t able to get on one 9f the early tenders so we were nearly 2 hours late in setting off. So our visit to the banana plantation was sacrificed and we drove through Anse La Raye and Canaries, two if the colourful coastal villages, before stopping at the viewpoint for the Two Pitons, these are lava cones which didn’t erupt and a big feature of the Island.

In Soufriere we took a boat ride to Sugar Beach, getting in the boat was a major achievement, down a wooden ladder with narrow steps, then the rain arrived, got to the beach looking like a drowned rat! Didn’t bother to swim, instead had a couple of very expensive beers in the bar of the resort hotel, luckily the rain stopped for our return to Soufriere. Local lunch in the Hummingbird Restaurant overlooking Soufriere.

Our final stop was the Sulphur Springs Park, the only drive in volcano in the world! Here you can smell the sulphur and see the heat rising from the volcano below, which erupted in 1776, which is 100 degrees Celsius. Interesting talk by a local guide.

Headed back to the port for our return tender to QM2, roads on the island are particularly bad and as it was Friday took a bit longer than anticipated, but we made it with 45 mins to spare!
