Arrived in London yesterday for the weekend after a wonderful visit with our friends Angela and Chris.
On the Friday, we walked to Kensington Palace which is available at a reduced cost for English Heritage members (definitely trying to get the most of our membership). There are four main exhibits the Young Victoria, the Kings and Queens State Rooms and a separate exhibition in the grounds on Royal Style which includes Princess Diana’s wedding dress.
In the early evening we visited the British Museum for the “Nero” exhibition which Nigel found really interesting.
We then met up with Kevin Kibble and Penny Stephens for a meal to catch up on the last couple of years, as we nearly managed to meet in Dubai Airport if we had worked out earlier we were both there at the same time! Looking forward to seeing them again at some point and somewhere not necessarily in the UK.
On Saturday we visited the Victoria and Albert Museum. Went to a talk on the Raphael Cartoons (paintings on paper which can be used to create a tapestry), which we saw a few of at Knole, very interesting talk as they have recently done a number of scientific tests on the paintings during lock down. Had a wander around the South Asia, China and Japan galleries. The embroidery examples from India are exquisite. Spent the afternoon in Covent Garden and only bought a clock! Before the odd drink or two.
Visit to Camden Market on Sunday, huge market with loads of stalls/shops definitely worth a visit when you are next in London, it’s open every day.
As it decided to rain in the afternoon we went to see Black Widow at the cinema, got absolutely drenched getting there, but enjoyed the film.
On Monday our morning visit to the National History Museum on our way to my Birthday Treat via Marble Arch and the nearby Mound!!! Lovely day today bearing in mind it was supposed to rain all day but most of it came down yesterday and caused chaos. For my Birthday had a lovely bottomless brunch HardRockCAFE in London, near Marble Arch. Our waiter Monir was great and kept our glasses topped up with a smile. Thanks also to Maria Seal and Penny for joining in our celebration and making our lunch even more enjoyable.
