Rochester, Leeds Castle & Down House

28 Jul 2021

Left London yesterday to collect our car from Dartford kindly looked after by Angela and Chris, who we can’t thank enough for such a wonderful stay last week and set off for Rochester. There is a submarine in the bay, which is seems is a U-475 Black Widow Russion Submarine and then a walk around the Castle past the Cathedral and the local town, never seen so many barber shops!
Our final destination was Leeds Castle where we were staying overnight, one of Nigel’s bucket list things, must put our lists to paper! Had a look around the Castle and grounds where there is a lot more to see than we thought including Bird of Prey Centre, Maze, Children’s Assault Course, Adventure Golf and a full 18 hole golf course. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
When we left Leeds Castle on our way to Curridge near Newbury we stopped off at the home of Charles Darwin, Down House, no photos inside, but really interesting exhibitions on his life and work. The little black dot in the sky is a spitfire from Biggin Hill and if you have the odd couple of grand to spare you can take a 20 min flight!
