On a short break visiting family and friends before Christmas.
Started with a visit to our friends Andy & Mary near Salisbury. On our way round managed to visit RHS Hyde Hall near Chelmsford. Gorgeous Winter Garden display, Hillside Garden, Dry Garden and the New Zealand and Australia Garden. Although not as colourful as it would be in the summer still worth visiting, especially the cheeky Robin getting his photo taken! Stayed with our friend Di in Clacton overnight and took the train to London the next day.
Spent the first day in London with our friends Angela & Chris firstly at the Peru Exhibition at the British Museum (one of our favourite places in London). The exhibition was excellent with some extremely well preserved textiles (due to the dryness and high altitudes) and ceramics. Also went to see the Sutton Hoo exhibition as we had been there earlier in the year and wanted to see what was found.
Dinner at Gordon Ramsays Street Food restaurant, a walk around Covent Garden & Trafalgar Square, after which we went to see the Drifters Girl with Beverley Knight at the Garrick Theatre, excellent show with fab music and told the Drifters story of which I had no idea.
Our last day or so in London included ticking off a Bucket List item for Nigel, in that we did a tour of Tower Bridge. Well worth a visit and interesting history, not sure about the 205 steps each way!  Did a tour of the Finance District with London Walks with our guide Mary. Fascinating tour would highly recommend, loads of info on the history of London, most of which I was unaware of (not surprising for me).  Visit to Museum of London on our last day, again an interesting visit and need to go again.
Train to Clacton on Sea to see our friend Di before heading off for a family visit to Peterborough.
