Farewell to Australia and New Zealand

19 Feb 2023

Made use of a couple of the free CAT bus routes around Perth to see some of the sights. Finished the day with meeting Debs at the rooftop bar at the Double Tree Hilton.

One of the highlights was our trip to Rottnest Island and the fabulous beaches, bus tour with Ted as our guide and not forgetting the unique Quokkas! Brilliant day with Debs and Ali.

Visit to King’s Park and the Botanical Gardens and another unbelievable meet up with Mike and Margaret Kewley, who were in Perth visiting their son, can’t believe we met up halfway around the world!

Finished our time with Debs and Ali at the King and I, Thai restaurant in Guildford. They have been fabulous hosts and can’t thank them enough for putting us up and showing us around Perth.

Flew to Sydney last night and just missed the horrific storm which caused huge damage and left lots of homes without power.

Typical this weekend in Sydney there were track repairs on the train line near our hotel, so replacement buses and a change to light rail to get our ferry to Parramatta. Next issue was that Parramatta Jetty was being refurbished so we got off the ferry at the Sydney Olympic Park before heading back to Cockatoo Island, which was a former penal colony, with a power station on site before it gained mainland power in the 1950s.

Excellent view of the Harbour Bridge on our return to Circular Quay and back to our hotel.

Tomorrow we fly to Bangkok and say goodbye to Australia and New Zealand and the end of our Down Under adventure.
