Been meaning to go to this Museum for a number of years, it’s only open Fri to Sun 10am to 4pm and just on the other side of Manchester. Finally made it a week or so ago, it’s hidden in a housing estate of very expensive houses, but a new building with the only white Vulcan on display outside.
The Museum is on the former Woodford Aerodrome site and saw the production of famous aircraft including the Lancaster, Vulcan, Nimrod and BAe 146. The Avro company A.V. Roe & Co (Avro) was set up by Alliott Verdon-Roe in 1910 and was one of the world’s first aircraft manufacturers. It was absorbed into Hawker Siddley in 1963 and later became part of British Aerospace.
Lots of history on display and they have a number of cockpit tours, including the Lancaster and Vulcan, which Nigel did, both were fascinating with lots of info he wasn’t aware of.
Lovely cafe, overlooking the white Vulcan, definitely need to visit again. All supported by donations and volunteers.
