Our friends Di, Kathy & Tony visited this weekend, extremely hot weather, making it really uncomfortable in our flat, reaching 30+ with very little air despite the fans. We just about coped, might have involved some alcohol and nibbles!
Gawthorpe Hall is just in the outskirts of Burnley, managed by National Trust and the local council. Built in the early 17th century, it was the family seat of the Shuttleworth family for over 300 years. In 1850, the house was redesigned by Sir Charles, who also redesigned Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey). Fabulous paneling, plasterwork ceilings, wallpapers and an impressive Long Gallery. Also on display are over 200 pieces from Gawthorpe Textile collection. The room stewards were brilliant, very friendly and knowledgeable. We will be back. Next off to Boundary Mill Outlet nearby. Ended the evening at a local cafe G & Teatime, great service, nice selection of drinks and good music.
Chester Mystery Guide
Another mystery to find the missing 9th Legion starting at the Roman Ampitheatre, great tour of Chester solving the mystery, with the odd stop for refreshments and obviously we found the final clue in a pub!
