Always wanted to visit the Auction House on Bangers & Cash and you can only do this on the week leading up to an auction. Luckily that week coincided with my birthday so off we went.
Bad traffic on the way but we managed to stop off at Nunnington Hall, lovely house with a very potted history. One of the last owners was Colonel Fife and his family, leaving his extensive collection of antelope heads and tiger skins. He was friends with both Rudyard Kipling and Churchill. Also a fabulous display of miniature rooms.
Took a quick look at the Bangers & Cash site and a lovely guy told us it would be best to arrive at 9am the following morning, to not only find a parking place but to beat the crowds.
Stayed at The Moors Inn in Appleton-le-Moors, a wonderful local pub with fabulous food, would highly recommend.
Set off the next day snd got there at 9am and parked nearby and managed to have a good look around. Only a donation of £5, all to charity, for the loan 8f a high-viz to walk around the 3 buildings and outside areas, where the cars were on display. Saw a couple of cars similar to those we had owned in the past, Ford Popular, Ford Capri, MG soft top, VW Passat and many Nigel would like to own like the Audi Quattro, only £44k or more!
The afternoon we spent at the Pickering Car Show, saw some fab HGVs with paint jobs, AC Cobra (definitely on Nigel’s wish list) and many more.
Pickering Castle dating from 1070, a ruin but nice to walk around. Then a visit to Pickering centre for a mooch and a cup of tea in Lily’s Tea Room.
On our way home visited Fountains Abbey, huge complex, again a ruin but lots of history, all finished off with an ice cream. Next stop was Coldstones Cut, an art installation above a quarry, what they didn’t mention was the walk up the hill from the car park to the viewpoint. As I struggled to open the car door, due to the wind and it had started raining we decided to give it a miss.
To round off the weekend we had dinner at our favourite Chinese restaurant, the Tung Fong with family.
