Ventured out again on the Chao Praya River, this time on a teak boat, a larger version of the long tail boat, on a tour with our guide Boeing!
There were only 10 of us, it is still monsoon season, Boeing was very informative about life on the River, especially in the Klongs, which are both big and small canals of the main river.
The last major flood was in 2011, where a lot of people lost their homes. The government has built a number of social housing (flats), so that residents can stay in the same area and installed concrete flood barriers along the sides of the canals.
We saw a wide variety of homes, both large and small, derelict, new and old, even a restaurant once owned by the Mandarin Oriental but now abandoned. The house where the past and current King’s doctor lived.
It was very choppy on the river when we were headed back, more than normal.
