We left the Celebrity Eclipse after 44 days for the next part of this trip.
Friends who we met on a cruise last year, who live in Buenos Aires kindly agreed to store our suitcases, whilst we tour Chile, Argentina and Uruguay for nearly a month. Had a lovely breakfast before heading to the international airport.
It only took an hour to get through checkin, security and immigration, can take over 2 hours at times. Our flight was just over 2 hours and we did manage to see a bit of the Andes, but was mainly covered in cloud. Immigration in Chile was again not too bad, once we had filled in an online customs form on landing. Our hotel was the Holiday Inn Express in Las Condes, which I managed to book with points for 3 nights (same point value as one night in Southampton!)
City tour today with Bernardo, there was an Argentine couple on the tour with us. Did a walking tour of the Old Town, which was influenced by Spain and France in the 1800s. Had our photo taken with the police guarding the Presidential Palace. Continuing through the city to the Church of San Francisco, thought to be the oldest in Chile. Nearby was a house used for torture, in General Pinochet’s time, which has plaques in the pavement naming some of those killed.
Headed off then to the hills surrounding the city, where the rich people live, in their huge houses, with security walls, some with electric fencing and many cameras. The view was impressive.
Finished off in the new town near our hotel. There is a 52 storey Constanera tower, the tallest skyscraper in Latin America. A large shopping mall, where the kids can go around on a variety of dinosaurs! Our destination though was the Hard Rock Cafe, where we had the odd drink or two and a little snack, very cheap. No Tshirt though as very little stock.
For the view though we headed to the Luna Bar in the AC Hotel, fabulous views of the city.
